BIOGRAPHY
My name is Matt Dela Cruz and I am a singer, actor and teaching artist from the Seattle, WA area. For around fourteen years I have been performing throughout the Western Washington area for various companies/venues.
I've always loved performing as a kid, but what led me to take this performing profession to the next level was during my sophomore year as a student at the University of Washington. I took all three Introduction to Acting courses through the UW Drama department, which gave me the confidence and passion to pursue my love for performing. Since then, I have performed for various organizations such as being a member of Seattle's longest running sketch comedy group The Pork Filled Players and performing in many musical theatre productions for various Washington state theatre companies.
I also graduated from the prestigious Circle in the Square Theatre School's musical theatre program in New York City and lived in New York City for three years, performing in various cabarets, namely being a Top 7 finalist in Stonewall Sensation's 14th Season (a singing competition at the historic Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Village). It was also in New York City where I discovered my love of teaching and I got the opportunity to assist children at PS 11 (in Chelsea) to write their own original plays.
On top of performing, I have a Master of Arts in Teaching degree (from Seattle Pacific University) and teach Theatre Arts to students in grades Pre-K to 8th Grade at a local private school.
